Jewellery Care

A little care keeps your silver looking its best.

Everyday care

  • Put your jewellery on after applying perfume, lotions and hair products.

  • Remove it before showering, swimming, exercising or using household cleaning products.

  • Avoid chlorine, bleach and harsh chemicals.

  • Take delicate pieces off before sleeping to help prevent snagging or bending.

After wearing, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth.

Why does silver tarnish?

Sterling silver can naturally darken over time. This is called tarnish, and exposure to moisture, perspiration, cosmetics and certain chemicals can make it develop faster.

Tarnish does not, by itself, mean your silver is faulty. Gentle cleaning can usually restore the shine of polished silver.

Cleaning your silver

For plain, polished sterling silver, gently wipe with a silver polishing cloth, following the cloth’s instructions. Use light pressure, especially around delicate chains, posts and clasps.

To remove everyday dirt from plain silver pieces, use lukewarm water, a little mild soap and a soft cloth. Rinse carefully and dry thoroughly before storing.

Avoid toothpaste, abrasive scrubbing and homemade cleaning mixtures. Please contact us before using silver dips or ultrasonic cleaners.

Matte or deliberately darkened finishes need different care. Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth rather than a polishing cloth, which may alter the finish.

Pieces with stones, pearls or other details

If your jewellery includes stones, pearl details, shell or other decorative materials, gently wipe it with a soft cloth.

Avoid soaking these pieces or applying silver cleaner to the decorative parts. Even when the metal is sterling silver, other materials may need a gentler cleaning method.

If you’re unsure, email us with the item name or a photo before cleaning.

Storing your jewellery

Store each piece separately in a clean, dry place to help prevent scratches and tangled chains.

For plain silver pieces, a small sealed storage bag can help reduce exposure to air and moisture. Always make sure your jewellery is completely dry first.

Keep jewellery away from humid bathrooms, direct sunlight and sources of heat.

Handle with care

Sterling silver is a relatively soft metal. Delicate posts, hoops, chains and adjustable designs can bend if forced.

Open and close clasps gently, and avoid repeatedly bending adjustable pieces. If an earring fastening feels loose or won’t close properly, contact us before trying to reshape it.
